The Cercle de Pessons is one of the most spectacular and well-known glacial spots of Andorra. Where

This route begins in the town of Encamp, in front of the Automobile Museum, where you'll easily spot the sign that indicates the beginning of the route, which sets off towards Lake Engolasters and the Blanc river.

route description

This route begins in the town of Encamp, in the homonymous parish, or more specifically, in front of the Automobile Museum, where you'll easily spot the sign that indicates the beginning of the route, which sets off towards Lake Engolasters and the Blanc river. The pathway heads southward, passing over waterways and a few roads, which should always be crossed with utmost caution. The route eventually merges with the GR-11, which is one of the long-distance trails that pass through Andorra. From here on, hikers need only follow the red and white marks. On either side of the path you'll find some of the region's most common species of flora, particularly the dianthus hyssopifolius, commonly known as the fringed pink. You'll also find plenty of traditional Andorran buildings scattered along the itinerary, such as the Cresper “borda” (mountain cabin).

Estany de les Abelletes

Where

The route starts at the base of the Coll dels Isards chairlift in Grandvalira - Pas de la Casa

route description

It is 808 metres long and you can get there in little over an hour. This is an easy outing ideal for the whole family. The les Abelletes Lake, which is very popular amongst fishermen for its trout and salmon population, is at the head of the Pas de la Casa river basin that forms a natural frontier with France. For this reason, part of the lake is in France and the other part in Andorra. We start our walk at the base of the Coll dels Isards chairlift in Grandvalira following the river banks to a water tank. From this point we continue along a forest path that climbs up to the right of the river to the lake.

Cami del Gall

Where

The route starts at the entrance to the Canillo cable car car park

route description

This route starts at the entrance to the car park of the Canillo cable car at an altitude of 1,535 metres, in the village of Canillo, were we will find a large wooden sign with all of the indications. Following the marked route, we come to wooden bridge and tunnel and further on we will enjoy views of the Bordes del Vilar complex, the Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Caselles and the river Seig. The path flattens out until les Bordes at 1,645m, and from here climbs again to les Marrades and the Tibetan bridge. We follow the route across a scree of the Grandvalira-El Tarter ski slopes (alt. 1,735). We drop down to the Collart bridge and climb again to el Palinqueró (alt. 1.805). This route ends at the CG-2 highway to the village of Soldeu, where we can catch a bus to go back to Canillo (leaving every hour on the hour), or walk back the way we came. This path runs alongside and frequently connects with the general highway (CG-2) which allows us to adapt the length of the walk to our preferences.

La Ruta D'Engordany

Where

Departing from Plaça de Santa Anna, Engordany

route description

Departing from Plaça de Santa Anna, the route follows the Camí de la Peletera to the site where the church of Sant Jaume formerly stood. From here, you can see the bridge connecting Engordany to Escaldes. Along the route, a series of panels present information on houses such as Cal Rafel, Cal Ricart and Cal Vicari, which serve as examples of traditional architecture and were used for purposes directly related to agriculture and livestock farming. The Engordany Trail tells an alternative story of Andorra: that of everyday life at the start of the 20th century. Amidst the labyrinth of houses and streets that give this area its identity, visitors will gain an insight into the importance of water in this parish, and the strong sense of community that bound its residents together. These were essential requirements for meeting the challenge of working the land and tending the livestock in the harsh rural environment of the period.

Andorra Hiking

Cami Ral D'Ordino

Where

The route, from the Church of Santa Bàrbara in Ordino to Llorts

route description

The Camí Ral starts in Ordino at Santa Bàrbara on the banks of the Valira del Nord River, where you will find a wooden bridge leading up the valley to the village of Sornàs. Here, you have to cross the main road and once you are on the other side, break off to the left to the second wooden bridge along the route. This allows you to continue climbing up gently along the path protected by the shade of the trees bordering the undergrowth, following the signposts that indicate the route until you reach Ansalonga. Soon after, there is a paved section of the path which you have to leave once you get to the wooden walkway. Once you have passed the Vilar building, near Cortinada, follow the “Homes i Mina de Ferro” (Iron Men and Mine) sign along the tarmacked path, which will take you to Cortinada. Here you can see the Romanesque Church of Sant Martí and just on the other side of the road, the Cal Pal Mill and Sawmill. Close by is the Cal Pal house, one of the oldest constructions in the country and which has been recently restored. Today it is study centre where the dissemination and recovery of Dry-Stone constructions (a traditional technique with numerous examples found throughout Andorra) is promoted.

Andorra Hiking

El Rec Del Sola

Where

The route starts on the plain of Sant Ermengol, in the parish of Andorra la Vella

route description

This pretty downhill walk starts on the plain of Sant Ermengol. If we go northbound on the right-hand side of the irrigation channel, we can go to the Sant Antoni de la Grella oratory to see the water going into the irrigation system and the Romanesque bridge of Sant Antoni. However, to follow this route we will have to take the path on the left. The irrigation system turns south west towards the Valley of Andorra la Vella. While we stroll, we can see a large number of vegetable gardens where the parish country folk grow their own food. If we continue walking, we will see that a couple of metres above the irrigation system there is a picnic point with a magnificent viewpoint. We must also add that on this route we can find information on three interpretative routes: the agricultural transformation of the valley, the growth and urbanisation of the valley and human beings and their adaptation to natural risks.

Tomb de les Neres Circuit

Where

The starting point is at the head of the Coll d’Ordino pass (CS-240), just on the edge of two parishes (Canillo and Ordino).

route description

This route around Bony de les Neres (2,212 m peak) is not particularly difficult, crossing the forests and meadows of Canillo, Encamp, La Massana and Ordino. Although it's a circular route that can be started from various points and which you can do in whichever direction you like, we recommend starting from the Coll d'Ordino pass, the most accessible point, towards the Canillo hillside. The starting point is at the head of the Coll d’Ordino pass (CS-240), just on the edge of two parishes (Canillo and Ordino). There is a panoramic orientation table and a descriptive panel on the esplanade by the parking area. The route is well signposted, with markers along the way. It features several springs, two picnic areas and viewpoints with simply spectacular panoramic views.

Roc Del Quer Vantage Point

HOW TO GET THERE

Although it's not next to the road, the vantage point is easy to get to. Once on the Coll d'Ordino road (CS-240), the vantage point is at kilometre 6.5. Just before you reach it, you'll find a large car park on your left. The vantage point is just a short walk from here. At the access point is the imposing "Self-generating Structures", a group of sculptures created in 1991 by the Mexican sculptor and architect Jorge Dubon. The three totem poles are a clear example of the artist's life work, seen as a “symbol of man's will to confront the immensity of the mountains.” From this area, which also has a bar, there's a 10-minute walk with a 70-m descent to reach the Roc del Quer vantage point platform, just 400 metres away. Comfortable footwear is recommended for the walk.

VIEWPOINT INFORMATION

The Mirador del Quer or Mirador de Canillo viewpoint, as many call it, is a 20-metre walkway, of which 8 metres are on solid ground while the other 12 seem to stretch into the scenery itself: this part of the walkway is a platform that is suspended in mid-air, creating the impression that you're levitating above the valley. Not only will the magic of this place make you feel like you're presiding over the Pyrenees; part of the walkway is made of transparent glass, further reinforcing the sense of height. Moreover, it is noteworthy that this part was installed in 2016. You're also sure to notice the sculpture at the end of the walkway: The Ponderer, by artist Miguel Ángel González, whose calm and meditative attitude invites visitors to do the same. Sitting on a beam, undaunted, it appears as if the height causes him no fear whatsoever. And in fact, it doesn't: it fills him with strength and confidence. Nonetheless, what makes the Mirador del Quer truly unique is its spectacular view. The valleys of Montaup and Valira d'Orient unfold below you; they're a vibrant green in summer and a glistening white during the winter. You'll also find a brief description of the surrounding scenery and the geological process by which the mountains were formed so you can better appreciate the view in front of you. The Mirador Roc del Quer isn't the only modern, accessible infrastructure that blends in with the Pyrenean landscape: in the 70s the Basilica of Our Lady of Meritxell was erected just two kilometres South of Canillo. It's devoted to the patron saint of Andorra, Our Lady of Meritxell.

Port D'Envalira Vantage Point

HOW TO GET THERE

The Port d’Envalira vantage point is located at kilometre 27 of the CG-2 road of Pas de la Casa.

However, the appeal of this vantage point doesn’t end here, as although it offers spectacular views of the Encamp mountains, this lookout spot will also make you travel back in time. The area also includes a hut (completely sustainable and powered by its solar panels and batteries), constructed with the essence of the first cabin built in Pas de la Casa, where you can see first-hand how the herdsman of bygone times lived. It should be noted however, that the hut is only open during the day. Finally, we should add that all the elements are perfectly integrated with the natural landscape and the surrounding environment.

Coll de la Botella Vantage Point

Additionally, if you look at the view from the other side of the road, you can see the Solanyó Ravine, the Setúria Valley and if you look further away you can even see some mountains in the neighbouring country such as the Os de Civís and the Tor, among others. Finally, it should be noted that this vantage point is at the foot of the road, on the CG 4, at kilometre 13.3, where you will also find a large tarmacked area where you can park your vehicle. Lastly, it should be added that the Coll de la Botella vantage point is a place that simply invites you to make a stop and enjoy the spectacular view over the valley, before resuming your route.

In the footsteps of the Muleteers on the iron route

where

The Ruta del ferro begins in Llorts, in the parish of Ordino. It's a 4.2 km linear itinerary (8.4 km round trip). The first half is downhill and the second half is slightly uphill (126 metre elevation). The path's waymarking is red and white, as it's part of the GR11

route description

La Ruta del Ferro, which translates into English as the Iron Route, is one of the best family excursions that can be enjoyed in our country, and for good reason: not only is it an easy route, but it also combines nature, culture, social sciences and economy. It could be said that it's a visual explanation of one of the most important activities developed in Andorra from the 17th century until the end of the 19th century: the metal industry.

Buscal's a Incles

where

Begin at Incles Valley which is located in between Soldeu & El Tarter. Access to the valley for vehicles is closed from mid-June to mid-September from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. But don’t worry, a transport service is available to make your trip easier: a small electric train will take you to and bring you back from the end of the road.

route description

Busca’ls (literally, “Search for them”) is a perfect activity to do as a family: not only will you be able to get to know the 6 most important paths in the Incles Valley, but you’ll also get to feel like authentic boy scouts, following the clues along your chosen path! Once you have read the information leaflet you have been given at the Canillo or Incles tourist office, choose one of the 6 paths the valley has to offer and get ready to walk! Once you have started along the path, you just have to follow the directions to complete the route. Then, you will need to pay close attention along the way as you will have to find a signpost in the same colour and number of the path you have chosen; then using the system set up on the signpost itself, mark your booklet to confirm your presence in the said place. Finally, you just have to present it to the Tourist Office at Canillo and collect your prize!

Our liability to you We promise that your holiday arrangements will be made, performed or provided with reasonable skill and care. This means that we will accept responsibility if, for example, you suffer death or personal injury or your contracted arrangements are not provided as promised or prove deficient as a result of the failure of us, our employees, agents or suppliers to use reasonable skill and care in making, performing or providing your arrangements. Further, we will be responsible for what our employees, agents and suppliers do or do not do if they were at the time acting within the course of their employment or carrying out work we had asked them to do. Whether our suppliers have performed or provided their services with reasonable skill and care or not will be determined in accordance with local standards (i.e. the country’s standards where the services have been performed or provided) rather than UK standards. It is your responsibility to show that reasonable skill and care has not been used if you wish to make a claim against us. We will not be responsible for any injury, illness, death, loss (including loss of enjoyment), damage, expense, cost or other sum or claim of any description whatsoever which results from any of the following the act(s) and/or omission(s) of you or another member of your party; or the act(s) and/or omission(s) of a third party not connected with the provision of your holiday and which were unforeseeable or unavoidable; or unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised (including, without limitation, the circumstances outlined in the section entitled “Force Majeure” below); or an event which we or the supplier of services, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall. We limit the maximum amount we may have to pay you for any claims you may make against us. The maximum amount we will have to pay you where we are found liable for loss of and/or damage to any luggage or personal possessions (including money) is £50 per person affected unless a lower limitation applies to your claim under this section. For all other claims which do not involve death or personal injury, the maximum amount we will have to pay you if we are found liable to you on any basis is three times the price (excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges) paid by or on behalf of the person(s) affected in total unless a lower limitation applies to your claim. This maximum amount will only be payable where everything has gone wrong and you have not received any benefit at all from your holiday. If you have had the misfortune to suffer illness, personal injury or death, through misadventure, during your holiday arising out of an activity which does not form part of your contracted holiday arrangements with us, we will, in our reasonable discretion, offer to help where possible and appropriate, by for example: providing our general assistance; paying your initial legal costs where you take legal action against the third party responsible for the injury, illness or death as a result (as long as we have agreed to pay them before you incur those costs and you have asked for our help within 28 days of the accident). All assistance (financial or otherwise) is subject to a maximum total cost to us of £1,000 per booking. We will not provide help with legal costs if you have legal expenses cover under your holiday insurance policy or any other insurance policy on which you are entitled to rely. Also, if you successfully claim for these costs against a third party, we will require you to reimburse us for any costs we have paid for or to you up to the maximum amount of the costs you actually receive or are entitled to receive. Except where otherwise expressly stated in these terms and conditions, where any successful claim or part of a claim (including those involving death or personal injury) concerns or is based on any travel arrangements (including the process of getting on or off the transport concerned) provided by any air, sea, rail, inland waterway or road carrier or any stay at an accommodation, the maximum amount of compensation paid to you will be limited. The maximum we, the carrier or accommodation provider (as applicable) will pay you for that claim or that part of a claim if we, the carrier or accommodation provider (as applicable) are found liable to you on any basis is the maximum which would be payable under the applicable International Convention or Regulation which applies to the travel arrangements in question in that situation. We may provide you with information (on our website, in our brochure and/or when you are on holiday) about excursions and activities which are available in the area you are visiting. If these excursions and activities are not purchased as a component part of your package holiday, we will have no involvement in these excursions or activities which are neither run, supervised nor controlled in any way by us. They are provided by local operators or other third parties who are entirely independent to us and do not form any part of your contract with us even where we suggest particular operators/other third parties and/or assist you in booking such excursions or activities in any way. Except as set out below, we cannot accept any liability on any basis in relation to such excursions or activities and the acceptance of liability contained in this section will not apply to them. We cannot accept liability for the behaviour of others in your accommodation or flight, or for any facilities/services withdrawn as a result of their action. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this agreement shall limit or exclude our liability for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation or for any other liability the exclusion or limitation of which is not permitted by English law. Your responsibilities and liability Please be aware that there may be some additional costs payable once in the resort in addition to the quoted price of your holiday. On check in guests may be asked to pay a damage deposit to the hotel or provide card details as to cover any potential damages that may be caused during the stay. This will be returned if no damage is caused. We want all our customers to have an enjoyable holiday. We ask you remember, however, that you are responsible for your actions and the effect they may have on others. If we, or another person in authority, believe: your actions could distress, upset, annoy or disturb other customers, our suppliers or our own staff, or put them in any risk or danger, or damage property; or you are unfit to travel; we may prevent you from continuing in the relevant activity and/or end your holiday and terminate your contract. You and your party will be prevented from using your booked accommodation, transport, and any other travel arrangements forming part of your booking. We will not be liable for any refund, compensation or any other costs you have to pay. Please bear in mind that you are responsible for your safety, and that you are responsible for the condition of the property you occupy. We are not responsible for any accidents which occur in or around swimming pools due to your inappropriate or irresponsible behaviour, or for any accidents which occur anywhere on properties because of any items or property which you have broken and/or have left in a way in which injury can result. We will hold you and the members of your party jointly and individually liable for any damage or loss caused during the trip as a result of your own actions or the actions of a member of your party (including without limitation damage to the accommodation, furniture, apparatus or other materials located within the accommodation and to any vehicles), together with any legal costs we incur in pursuing a claim. It is your duty to report any breakages, defects or damage to an appropriate person immediately and to pay the accommodation owner or manager or other supplier directly for any loss or damage to property. You are responsible for your own timekeeping. If you do not arrive to the hotel, bar, club, boat party, or bus, by the departure time, you forego the right to go on the excursion. If your behaviour or the behaviour of any members of your party causes any transport aircraft to be diverted we and/or the carrier will hold you and those members of your party jointly and individually liable for all costs incurred as a result of that diversion. We are providing tickets to the events and do not supply alcohol. All local laws relating to the consumption of alcohol must at all times be obeyed, including any age restrictions. We appreciate that you may consume alcohol during the holiday. You must, however, do so responsibly and we will have no liability to you for any injury, loss or damage you suffer as a result of your judgment being impaired wholly or partly by alcohol. You must be in a fit state to enter the bars and clubs that we go to. If not, we are not responsible if you fail to be granted entry. Under no circumstances is the use of illegal drugs tolerated. Anyone found to have taken, or be possessing, substances which are illegal in the host country, will no longer be a part of the trip. You must not smoke in a hotel bedroom, caravan or apartment, or in any way that could cause a fire hazard. Force Majeure Except where otherwise specified in these booking conditions, we regret we cannot accept liability or pay any compensation where the performance or prompt performance of our contractual obligations is affected by reason of circumstances amounting to Force Majeure. In these booking conditions “Force Majeure” means any event which we or the supplier of the services in question could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. Such events may include war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire and similar events beyond our control.
