Access the bike park from the La Massana Cable Car
When the cold gives way to the heat, the Pal-Arinsal ski resort doesn’t close for business. It becomes Vallnord Bike Park, one of the most spectacular mountain bike areas in southern Europe. In fact, in summer it’s home to some major international mountain bike competitions that choose this circuit for the quality of its facilities and the adrenaline rush generated by its circuits. Here’s a description of some of the services offered at this, the perfect destination for mountain bike lovers. The Vallnord Bike Park features 29 circuits with different characteristics for all levels, making it ideal for both beginners in the world of mountain biking and those looking to perfect their skills. Whatever the level, visitors can sign up to classes at the downhill school, run by local rider Soraya Drici. She and her team of trainers will be responsible for transmitting all their MTB experience and knowledge, while always observing the highest safety standards.
The route begins from the Plaça del Consell in the centre of Encamp
Easy route around the Encampadana parish on which we enjoy the ride along the path from Les Pardines to Llac d’Engolasters. The route climbs the road and then follows the flat dirt track. We start the route from the Plaça del Consell in the centre of Encamp, where the town’s tourist office is located. Going past the church of Sant Miquel, we continue along the streets of the old town of Encamp until we reach the main road, and later just after leaving the town, next to the Funicamp, we take the turning to the right of the CS-220 road. We follow it for 3km, until we get to the Les Pardines car park. Any companions who want to follow part of the route on foot can leave their vehicles here. From here, we start a quiet and pleasant walk along the Les Pardines path, which crosses the hills to join the parishes of Encamp and Escaldes-Engordany. The route to Llac d’Engolasters is 3km in length, and once there, we can walk around the lake and enjoy the activities offered in the area (FEDA museum, adventure park, etc.).
15KM - 510M
The circuit begins at the Engolasters Car Park
The MTB circuit of Engolasters is from the Fonts d’Engolasters car park at 1,520 metres to Engolasters Lake at 1,620 metres. Along the way we have the option of doing 3 skills workshops, 6 trial bicycle workshops, jumps, banked bends and balancing on wooden walkways. The route is done in little more than 20 minutes and its difficulty is low.
2.38KM - 90M
Circular route along which we can explore the parishes of Escaldes Engordany and Andorra la Vella, and get a bird’s eye view of these two large centres of populations. As the route is circular, we can start it at any point along the track.
We descend by the Obac area from the upper part of Escaldes to the Serradells area and then to Margineda and Santa Coloma, where we can visit its Romanesque church. At this point, we change sides and take the Rec del Solà path, which runs along the western slope of the valley, beneath the Pic de Carroi. When we reach the height of the Pont Pla tunnel, the road runs north, following the Valira del Nord river. Once we reach the northern mouth of the tunnel, we can follow the same path, until we get to La Massana, passing through the Sant Antoni tunnels and the old Ral road. On the other hand, we can also follow the route towards the Can Diumenge area, where we will gain height and enjoy spectacular views of Escaldes Engordany and Andorra la Vella, as well as the lower part and entrance to the Vall del Madriu. We finish the route by descending towards the Engordany area, that will take us back to the town’s shopping streets and residential areas.
15KM - 600M
We start off from Plaça de les Fontetes de la Massana, next to the Vallnord-Pal cable car
Circular, easy-to-medium level route that crosses the Easterly part of the parish of La Massana, and part of Ordino. We start off from Plaça de les Fontetes de la Massana, next to the Vallnord-Pal cable car, and follow the trail descending towards the lowest part of the town and continue along the Les Gravades path, which takes us to l'Aldosa and up towards the quiet trail to Font Del Mallol. The circuit continues until eventually you end up back in La Massana.
19KM - 900M
We set out from the tourist office of Ordino and go to La Massana, 1 km along the road, where we find a turning to the right, the dirt track that passes by the side of the Santa Barbara Chapel starts; we follow the river Valira del Nord up, in a northerly direction.
Arriving at the roundabout of Sornàs, we take the road, using the bike lane by its side, until we reach Ansalonga, where we leave the asphalt behind until we reach the village of La Cortinada. On leaving the village, we can see and visit the Cal Pal mill and sawmill and the church of Sant Martí de la Cortinada, just next to it. Then, we cross the bridge to our right, and continue along the road for 1 km, pass through Arans and reach Llorts, where we can see several stone and iron sculptures, and visit the Mina del Ferro de Llorts mine. At Llorts, we cross the road again and continue on the Serrat road on the left side of the river. From this town, we continue along the road for 2 km until we find the fork, leading us to the Sorteny Natural Park. Once we have reached the esplanade, next to the tourist house, there is only one last 2-km stretch until we reach the Sorteny Refuge.
31KM - 950M
